Why is Catechism Necessary?

When parents bring a child for baptism, they are making promises before God with the support of the congregation.  Those promises include a list of things that are all to raise the child so that they grow to believe in God and learn to follow Jesus according to our Lutheran faith.  Confirmation is when the youth can declare publicly that the promises made when they were baptized have been fulfilled, and the faith we share is now their faith as well.    Catechism is a deliberate learning experience that focuses on growth and maturity in the most central areas of our faith: learning, worshiping, and serving.

How Does it Work?

Here's the basics.  The youth earn points toward a defined goal for the year.  Points are earned by attending worship, CAT class, volunteering, etc.  But, the core content for learning is a video assignment. Click HERE to view or download a list of the points for the program.

Video Lessons

Each week a video-based lesson will be assigned.  From home, whenever they have time throughout the week, they watch the video and answer the questions in a quiz.  If they can not come to class that week, they can print out the quiz, complete it, then email it to the pastor, or text a pic of it to him.  If they can attend class, they bring their completed quiz to class that Sunday for a deeper dive into the topic.
